Tablets are huge part of modern society and a must have for pretty much anyone who cares about electronics. They have taken the design philosophies of the laptop and improved them, giving the tablets much more portability without really sacrificing any functionality.
When it comes to tablets, pretty much everyone immediately thinks of the electronics giant Apple and their Ipad. Certainly the Apple Ipad is the most famous tablet out there, but it is by no means the only tablet. There are plenty of other companies out there with their own tablets and each has something to offer, such as the Motorola Xoom Tablet.
The Xoom has a comparable price to the Ipad so when making your decision you should look at their various pros and cons before settling on one or the other. The Xoom is hardly the perfect tablet and it has it’s weak points just the same as the Ipad, what you need to determine is whether those weak points outweigh it’s strong points.
Display Screen. The display screen on the Xoom is 10.1 inches and it has a resolution of 1280 x 800. This gives it impressive definition and clarity and makes it perfect for watching high definition videos. The Ipad has a 9.7 inch screen with a resolution of only 1024 x 768. So when it comes to the screen the Motorola Xoom Tablet wins out by a rather noticeable margin.
Processing power. In the world of electronics, power is everything. The faster, more powerful something is the more things it can do and the faster it can do them. In terms of raw power the Xoom wins out again with it’s 2.1 GHz dual core processor and 1 Gigabyte of ram. The Apple Ipad only has a single core processor making it much slower than the Xoom.
Systems Software. The Xoom operates off the Google Android 3.0 honey comb which is constantly being worked on and improved upon by it’s developers. This is faster then the Ipad’s IOS 4.2 however because the Xoom’s operating system is newer it is not as stable as the Ipads which can make it prone to crashes.
Also because it is a newer operating system, a lot of games and applications are not compatible with it whereas they are compatible with the Ipad. However to counter this, the Xoom allows users to use third party content whereas the Ipad requires all applications to be released by Apple.
Connectivity and Flexibility. When it comes to flexibility the Xoom packs quite a punch. It is compatible with a larger range of electronic devices then the Ipad is, as well as sporting USB and Bluetooth connectivity which allows transferring data between different devices much easier.
The Motorola Xoom Tablet is also looking to support 4G Wifi, allowing you to browse the web at a blistering pace. This would make it much faster then the Ipad’s current 3G. The Apple Ipad also does not have USB support which can make utilizing it with other devices quite cumbersome, something many Apple fans have complained about.
